We did not stay in Brooklyn for long, but before crossing back across the bridge we stopped for lunch to build up energy. E led the way, taking us to a little, but popular pizza place called Grimaldi's.
We arrived before opening and there was a queue of hungry New Yorkers - kids in arms - waiting for their pizza hit. The food was amazing and the place has attracted famous guests including Frank Sinatra.
To order you chose your pizza size and toppings. We struggled to finish one regular pizza per two people -even with my extreme greediness. We were quite ashamed, especially when all the other tables were easily gobbiling up a large between two.
I guess for the moment we can only dream of being real New Yorkers.....
After Pizza I was eager to get going - when I first arrived in New York I was so excited about seeing the bridge and had been disapointed what I saw. I was hoping by walking the bridge I would get another perspective. This time I wasn't let down. The walk, the view and the bridge itself are spectacular.
On the bridge there is a battle that exists between cyclists trying to commute and tourists admiring what is the Brooklyn Bridge. The weather was warm (no more than 10C, but its relative!) and the sun was out. Even E, our seasoned New Yorker, got into the vibe and we snapped pictures with no shame.
In the middle of the bridge we read up about its history and took a moment to breath in the view, then trekked on all the way home. A fantastic way to enjoy the Sunday sun. Can't wait to experience more of Brooklyn.
Just so you know, I was here.
ReplyDeleteOh, and don't forget that great plan we made. Let April be here, you fool ;)
